Marvin Hoffert Jazz has been performing in Kitsap County since 2015, when Marvin Hoffert migrated West to Bainbridge Island and hooked up with Carson Farley and Gary Grout. We love the beautiful tunes that we grew up with - the Ballads and the Swing Tunes from The Great American Songbook, the lilting Bossa’s that swept out of Brazil, and the moving Clave’s that danced in from Cuba. We play these tunes with respect, but also add some features of more modern jazz - We call this straight ahead jazz with a contemporary flare.
Members of The Pontunes have been making music and having fun together for decades, playing a variety of clubs, parties, weddings and other private events over the years and building a music catalog that covers jazz, rock, singer-songwriters, R & B, standards and original songs written by several of the band members. Our Northwest roots are strong with most members growing up together in the Issaquah area. In fact, the name The Pontunes is a humorous play on the pontoons that support the Lake Washington floating bridges.

Fronted by married songwriting duo Kim West and Ryan Devlin, the bands melodies and harmonies exude intimacy. The swirling synths of keyboardist/vocalist West cut through the heaviness of Devlin’s fuzzed out guitars like a neon sign in the night. Bassist Luke Ragnar fills in the bottom end with stylishly inventive bass lines that perfectly compliment Nick Krivchenia’s grounded and authoritative drums.
The very first band signed to Seattle label Freakout Records, the group quickly released a number of albums and a slew of singles while simultaneously hitting the road, playing across the US and Europe. A new record was ready to be released and a year of tours booked to support it, but the dark cloud of 2020 came down and, well, no one said perseverance was easy. Smokey Brights shined on, releasing the album I Love You But Damn in July of 2020. The record quickly garnered rave reviews and the support of independent radio, eventually landing on KEXP’s top albums of the year. Confined to their rehearsal space the group kept grinding, hammering out new material and honing their performance to a razor's edge.
The group released their first LP, Taste For Blood, in 2014 to regional acclaim and heavy airplay and support from iconic radio station KEXP. Catching the attention of upstart label Freakout Records, the band released their sophomore LP, Hot Candy, in 2016. 2018 saw the band releasing two EP's, "Come to Terms" and "Different Windows," with supporting appearances at clubs and festivals across the United States as well as the group's first headlining UK tour. 2019 brought extensive touring in support of these EPs, with the band's first headlining European tour, official plays at SXSW, Treefort Music Festival, and additional tours and festivals across the US. Smokey Brights will release a new LP in 2020.
