Manor House Concert: Zan Fiskum

Maple Valley raised singer/songwriter Zan Fiskum uses her haunting and beautifully controlled singing to craft ethereal and brooding folk/pop songs.

Zan grew up playing make believe, wedged between the aisles of musty red velvet seats at Auburn Ave, the diner theater her family volunteered at. After years of observing the performances, Zan volunteered her own participation and discovered her transcendence on the stage. Beneath the lights she went from a quiet and mysterious girl to a bold and passionate performer. The stage is where she found her place of belonging. At the age of 12 Zan broke away from the molds of her classical music training and experimented with enmeshing forthright lyrics, cinematic melodies and explosive synth sounds into her songwriting. She went on to release her first 6 singles and achieved over 2 million streams on spotify alone.

Just 2 years later, Zan made her national debut on NBC’s The Voice as a top 9 finalist and received recognition for her dynamic performing and voice from Billboard magazine, Maggie Rogers, Camila Cabello and the Indigo Girls. Zan then launched forward with full force and started her band and wrote and released her debut album “Sleeping Problems.” She wanted this project to be brutally honest and to fully expose the wounds that inspired these songs. She has since found herself performing in iconic Seattle venues such as The Moore Theater, The Triple Door, Sasquatch and more, leaving her audience awe struck each time.

Manor House Concert: King Youngblood

Alternative Press calls King Youngblood “Seattle’s Alt Rock Princes” - they sure got that right. Twenty-two-year-old founder and frontman Cameron Lavi-Jones, along with bassist Hamoon Milaninia, drummer Alix Daniels, and cellist Chet Peterson have a singular mission: grab heavy guitar/drums rock by the collar and drag it into the willing arms of the new generation of fans current fueling the resurgence of Rock. King Youngblood crafts beautifully crisp, deeply soulful, and elegantly strong songs.
King Youngblood has been leading the rising Pacific Northwest pack long before pop’s biggest names started embracing cathartic rock music. Led by Black/Jewish Lavi-Jones, King Youngblood’s music is an instrumental leap towards the future of big, guitar-driven music. Manor House Concert Series: Ranger and the Re-Arrangers

Ranger and the “Re-Arrangers” evoke the spirit of a Paris cafe and the raucous energy of a Romani campsite with their version of Hot Club Swing. “At the heart of their sound is Ranger's sweet violin playing… his sense of melody and daring improvisations” (World Rhythm). Tomo Nakayama (Manor House Concert Series)

Born in Japan and raised in Seattle, Washington, Tomo Nakayama is an artist whose melodic, complex and emotionally compelling music has been praised by NPR, New York Times, and The Stranger. Beginning as frontman of the indie rock bands Asahi and Grand Hallway and a successful solo career spanning two decades as a singer, songwriter, composer, producer, actor, and curator, Nakayama has become one of the most active and recognizable figures in Seattle music.

After the critically acclaimed indie-folk albums “Fog on the Lens” and “Pieces of Sky” (named "Best Folk Act" by Seattle Weekly), Nakayama surprised his fans by releasing his latest album "Melonday" (on Porchlight Records), a collection of instantly memorable and undeniably danceable synthpop songs. Co-produced by Yuuki Matthews (The Shins, Sufjan Stevens) and mastered by Dave Cooley (M83, Paramore, Tame Impala), “Melonday” was named one of the Top Albums of the year by Seattle Times, KEXP, and Seattle Met Magazine, and debuted at #1 on KEXP’s NW Charts. The following year he composed the music for Megan Griffith’s feature film “I’ll Show You Mine” and the KUOW podcast “Ten Thousand Things” hosted by Shin Yu Pai, and collaborated on a song with Dave Matthews for SMASH (Seattle Musicians Access to Sustainable Healthcare).

Nakayama has toured across the US and Japan, sharing the stage with Built to Spill, Thao, Cornelius, Daði Freyr, Fleet Foxes, Michael Hurley, Sons of Kemet, Ben Gibbard, Fruit Bats, Damien Jurado, Buffalo Daughter, Wye Oak, and Shugo Tokumaru. He has performed and collaborated with Sera Cahoone, Jherek Bischoff, Jeremy Enigk (of Sunny Day Real Estate), and experimental dance company Malacarne. He also composed music and appeared as an actor in the Lynn Shelton film “Touchy Feely” with Elliot Page and Rosemarie DeWitt. A former Artist in Residence at Seattle’s Town Hall, his sound installations and compositions have also been featured at the Museum of Northwest Art and Wing Luke Museum.

Nick Drummond (Manor House Concert Series)

Seattle singer-songwriter, Nick Drummond, is a chef and his music is a sumptuous feast. To hear Drummond’s songs is to sit down at a long dining room table, tuck in your napkin and begin to digest all that’s set before you. First the smells and sights then the sounds and conversations that swirl about. With the close and reopening of your eyes, your table is suddenly transported outdoors, Mad Hatter-style, with teacups and intoxicated cats draped over their delicate plates. The songs continue, lavishly.

Drummond is a mainstay in the Emerald City. Whether performing solo with nimble fingers and elastic vocals or backed by some of the region’s best players, from the renowned organist Joe Doria, celebrated guitarist Cole Schuster, or the pocket-perfect combination of bassist Mark Mattrey and drummer Ehssan Karimi, Drummond brings his sonic cornucopia to audiences in rooms of all sizes and states. He’s sold out nights at Jazz Alley and the Triple Door. He’s played the Showbox and Neumos, fingers dancing on acoustic guitars and electric banjos.
